<image:title>Past projects - Greening Court - Internal reconfiguration</image:title>
<image:caption>As project architect at MEB Design Ltd, Peter Njuguna developed Greening Court proposals from feasibility stage, to detailed design, tender stage and through to construction on site in May 2016. The proposals were a key phase of the school masterplan in which the Old Science Laboratories would be converted into new classrooms that would house most of the school's humanities subjects. The existing buildings once reconfigured and refurbished would be rebranded as Greening Court. The complexity of the the project necessitated the requirement for an enabling/ demolition stage of works that would prepare the site for the new classrooms and offices which required new heating, lighting & associated services. The main design features of the reconfiguration are the circulation and social spaces created, the acoustic ceiling panels installed, the lighting design and the carpet/ finishing choices that give identity to the classrooms and social spaces. The final construction phases of the project was completed by MEB Design Ltd in September 2016.</image:caption>

<image:title>Past projects - Middle Way, Oxford - Residential extension</image:title>
<image:caption>As project architect with MEB Design Ltd, Peter Njuguna delivered this project from sketch design to construction completion. The client wanted more kitchen/ dining space and proposed an extension to a three storey end-of-terrace townhouse in north Oxford. The proposals included a new kitchen and dining room that opened out into the rear garden. A new entry hall and link to the existing house as well as a new downstairs WC and boot room. The design makes good use of the gap to the side of the property and the neighbouring older Edwardian terrace house. Large areas of glazing to the rear elevation, roof lights and clerestorey level externally and internally between all the rooms allowed the spaces to accentuate light and airiness despite the restricted site. Utilising a standing seam copper roof with matching verges and fascias, gives the extension the appearance of a light weight roof-wing element 'floating' above the garden wall. Construction was completed in December 2011.</image:caption>

<image:title>Past projects - Leckford Road, Oxford - Residential extension</image:title>
<image:caption>As project architect with MEB Design Ltd, Peter Njuguna delivered this residential extension from design inception through to construction completion. The clients brief was for a light and airy ‘Writers Room’ and a media/ guest room. The design aimed to achieve a contemporary open plan conservatory space on an upper floor level and a media room to the lower ground floor that could be converted into an en-suite guest area. Internally, the contemporary design aimed at expressing its structure honestly with an exposed steel frame. Externally the extension is built with a brick colour, brick bonding and reconstituted stone banding details that complement and match the existing Victorian townhouse set within the North Oxford Victorian Suburb Conservation Area. Construction was completed October 2014.</image:caption>

<image:title>Past projects - No.2 Norham Gardens - View from Norham Gardens</image:title>
<image:caption>No.2 Norham Gardens, Oxford is a large detached Victorian townhouse within the North Oxford Victorian Suburb Conservation Area that is used by Wycliffe Hall for student accommodation, seminar rooms and staff offices. Project 51 Architecture has been sub-consulted by MEB Design Ltd to develop sketch proposals through to Tender stage documents. The proposals are to update and upgrade the internal rooms of the building by sensitively placing bathroom pods in stud wall partitions to provide quality student en-suite rooms. The proposals also aim to update and improve the heating, plumbing and associated mechanical services within the building. The project is at tender stage, January 2017.</image:caption>

<image:title>Past projects - Proposed elevations - Two storey extension, Newbury</image:title>
<image:caption>The two storey extension adds two double bedrooms above a small garage and utility room to the side of a chalet style 1960’s dwelling. The challenging shape of the plot suggested a contemporary approach that maximises the design potential of the footprint and ensuring the proportions are in-keeping with the street context. Planning consent was gained July 2018 with construction scheduled to commence and be completed before the end of the summer of 2019.</image:caption>

<image:title>Current projects - Lincoln Road extension - Rear view</image:title>
<image:caption>The aim of the project is to increase the living area in a unique detached house on a street with mainly semi-detached properties. This increase in area would be achieved by building above the existing single storey kitchen and introducing a loft conversion. The design achieved these aims by balancing the aesthetic needs of the neighbourhood and provision of suffice and internal space. This was done by designing two new gables at a perpendicular plane to the existing one which echo the existing street facing gable. Porthole windows were designed into the new gables. These porthole windows give natural light to the new staircase that leads to the loft conversion as well as to the new large loft room. The mansard/ box loft extension is set back from the edge of the eave line as well as the ridge line to reduce the impact of the extension. The proposals gained a lawful development certificate and construction completed in 2016.</image:caption>
